FREE FALL CLEAN-UP FOR VETERANS (1)
We aim to express our gratitude to veterans in our community for their sacrifices by offering a day of complimentary fall clean-up, on Saturday, November 14th, 2026.
 

This program is coordinated by the GKAR Community Relations Committee and funded by GKAR's 2026 Business Partners.

VOLUNTEER FOR DAY OF SERVICE

Volunteer Details:
  • Complete the online Volunteer Form. The form will be available beginning on Tuesday, October 6th, 2026, and will remain open until Sunday, November 1st, 2026.
  • There is no cost for our veterans, their families, or our volunteers. 
  • GKAR volunteers will complete approved projects on Saturday, November 14th, 2026.
  • Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own tools to complete the service (i.e. rakes, tarps, leaf blowers, etc.)
 
Team Captain Details:
  • Team Captains are a crucial piece of our annual Day of Service
  • Team Captains are responsible for:
    • being the primary point of contact with the Veteran, or their designated point of contact
    • aid with soliciting Volunteers
    • visiting the Veteran at their property to complete a site-visit questionnaire
    • communicate property details with their team of Volunteers
    • picking up Volunteer shirts and any supplies needed for service 
  • Team Captains attend the Team Captains' meeting on October 19th, 2026
  • GKAR Members who are interested in serving as a Team Captain for this program may email Support@GKAR.com on or before October 5th, 2026

NOMINATE A VETERAN

How it works:
  • Nominations are open from Friday, August 7th, 2026, through Monday, October 5th, 2026. Self-nominations are welcomed and encouraged.
  • There is no cost for our veterans, their families, or our volunteers.
  • The nominee (veteran or point of contact) will be notified whether or not they are selected, via letter, after Wednesday, October 7th, 2026.
  • GKAR volunteers aim to serve 10-15 Veterans annually, and will complete approved projects on Saturday, November 14th, 2026.
  • Volunteers will work to remove leaves from the veteran's yard and either bag them for city pickup or move them to a designed area on the property.
 
Coverage Area:
If you are a veteran or know a veteran, who lives in their home, in Kalamazoo County or within 15 miles of the Greater Kalamazoo Association of REALTORS® (GKAR) office, you are eligible to receive this service. The office address is:
