Committee Application

GKAR Committees are the lifeblood of the Association, serving and executing the vision for the Association, in alignment with the Bylaws, Strategic Plan, and National Association of REALTORS®' Core Standards. Approximately 100 Members are selected to serve GKAR each year; contributing to the professionalism of our Membership and the real estate industry in Southwest Michigan as a whole.

  • The application period is open from November 1st, until December 5th, 2025.
  • All applicants will be notified of application status no later than Friday, December 19th, 2025; some Committees may be limited in size.

2026 Committee Objectives  & Information

Advocacy committee

Schedule: January, March, May, June, August, November
2026 Objective: Educate, promote awareness, and generate increased participation in RPAC
2026 Assignments: Attend the annual Governmental Legislative Update Forum; participate/attend Candidate Interviews for State Governor, State Senate, State Representatives, Kalamazoo County Commissioners; attend Capitol Day, in Lansing, to represent REALTORS® while visiting our Legislators; initiate outreach to Members regarding the significance of RPAC; and promote 100% participation in RPAC with all committees and Board of Directors. Committee Members are highly encouraged to participate in RPAC.


Community Relations committee

Schedule: January, February, March, May, September, October, November; 1st Friday at 10:00 am
2026 Assignments: Plan, coordinate, promote and participate in Association community outreach activities to serve the community and increase REALTOR® involvement and awareness in the community; Bowl for Kids’ Sake; Walk to End Homelessness; Senior Services Ramp Build (2); Local Housing Volunteer Day; and Day of Service for Veterans. Committee Members are highly encouraged to participate in RPAC.


Grievance committee

REALTORS® Only 
Schedule: As needed
2026 Objective: Screen/investigate for the Professional Standards Hearing Panel. Following review, determine the proper course of action on any formal complaint from the public or Membership. Committee Members must have been a REALTOR® Member for a minimum of three years and attend additional education. Committee Members are highly encouraged to participate in RPAC.


Membership committee

REALTORS® Only 
Schedule: February, April, June, September, November;
2nd Wednesday prior to the Board of Directors' meeting

2026 Objective: Support and promote Membership through New Member Orientation and the New Member Welcome Program.
2026 Assignment: Review GKAR REALTOR® and Business Partner Membership applications for approval; review GKAR Emeritus benefit applications for approval; record videos focused on Member Engagement to be used as promotional pieces; host a Committee event for Members to learn about various GKAR Committees; and promote the value of GKAR Membership. Committee Members are highly encouraged to participate in RPAC.


MLS committee

REALTORS® Only 
Schedule: January, March, May, June, August, September, November; 2nd Tuesday at 1:30 pm
2026 Objective: Develops, interprets, and enforces MLS policies and rules.
2026 Assignment: Provide solutions for streamlining MLS system. Committee Members are highly encouraged to participate in RPAC.


Professional Development committee

Schedule: January, March, May, July, September, November;
1
st Thursday at 9:00 am
2026 Assignments: Work to further the knowledge and education of Members; Plan, coordinate, promote, and participate in the Professional Development Committee Presents Series; Economic Update and REALTOR® Safety. Committee Members are highly encouraged to participate in RPAC.


Professional Standards committee

REALTORS® Only 
Schedule: As needed
2026 Objective: Provide a pool of panel members to hear matters of alleged Code of Ethics violations by REALTOR® Members and hear disputes regarding commissions. Committee Members must have been a REALTOR® Member for a minimum of five years and attend additional education. Committee Members are highly encouraged to participate in RPAC.


Risk Management committee

Schedule: Monthly; 2nd Friday at 9:00 am 
2026 Objective: Review and revise standard forms, contract language, and disclosures.
2026 Assignment: Provide GKAR Members Forms Update session by individual or panel and continue participation in the West Michigan Regional Forms Committee. Committee Members are highly encouraged to participate in RPAC.
