The Greater Kalamazoo Association of REALTORS® (GKAR) announced today their support for the 20th Anniversary of Kalamazoo's Walk for the Homeless event. Hosted by the HRI Family Shelter, the Walk is sheduled to be held on Saturday, March 28th and consists of a five mile course which begins and ends at the Shelter's location on 522 Eleanor Street in Kalamazoo.
Many GKAR members and associates are expected to participate in the Walk which is the largest single fundraiser for the Family Shelter during the year. A goal of $75,000 has been set for the Walk with all proceeds benefiting the Shelter. The 24-bed facility is the only shelter in Kalamazoo County allowing families to remain together as a family unit during their stay at the facility. It offers a comfortable and caring temporary home, where families can regain their footing and seek solutions to their potential housing crisis.
GKAR participants in the Walk have been collecting money in exchange for their pledge to walk the five-mile, non-competitive route. Every walker who raises at least $20 receives a t-shirt and everyone involved is treated to refreshments and entertainment to help make the event a fun, family oriented day. This year, GKAR will have an additional presence during the Walk as a tent-stand will be available at some point in the course where walkers will have access to refreshments, towels and information on the day's event.
GKAR encourages anyone interested in getting involved with the 20th Anniversary of Kalamazoo's Walk for the Homeless event to visit gkar.com or contact the GKAR office at 269.382.1597.
