Kalamazoo, Michigan - June 3, 2009: The Greater Kalamazoo Association of REALTORS® (GKAR) announced today the opportunity for people interested in running for public office or working on a political campaign to attend any of three classes focused on different aspects of election support.
The 2009 Campaign & Candidate School will be held June 10th, June 17th, and June 24th from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm in the Raymond C. Becker Auditorium of the Greater Kalamazoo Association of REALTORS®, located at 5830 Venture Park Drive in Kalamazoo. Jointly hosted by the Greater Kalamazoo Association of REALTORS®, the Home Builders Association of Greater Kalamazoo (HBAGK) and the Kalamazoo Regional Chamber of Commerce (KRCC), the Campaign & Candidate School is being held to educate people who are interested in running for public office, ranging from local municipals to state and federal positions, or serving as a volunteer on a candidate's campaign in a management or supporting role.
For those interested in devoting their time to the political process, the Campaign & Candidate School costs $45 for members of GKAR, HBAGK and KRCC and $75 for non-members. The classes will provide instruction on the following issues when running for elected office:
June 10: Campaign planning, budgets, and voter contact
June 17: Coordinating volunteers, grassroots advocacy, and media relations
June 24: Campaign fundraising and compliance regulatory issues
"Nearly everyone cares about some issue in the public arena, but only a handful actually stop listening to the retoric and go out and do something about programs that are important to them" says Frank Mortl, III, Chief Executive Officer of GKAR. "Our Campaign & Candidate School will provide valuable lessons on managing a successful grassroots operation including pointers on fundraising and finding, training and mobilizing volunteers. As most elected officials will attest, the bottom-line is that supporters of your message need to get out on Election Day and vote for you ... these classes are expected to deliver on the local aspect of running a winning campaign."
GKAR encourages anyone interested in the purchase of a home to contact a local greater Kalamazoo REALTOR® for more information on homebuying opportunities and the advantages available to both new and trade-up buyers.
